From September 17th to 21st, 2023, the 24th World Petroleum Congress took place in Calgary, Canada, with the participation of over 20.000 global energy sector leaders. Among the takeaways from the technical conference sessions of the Congress, the following points stand out:

  • The possibility of including hydrogen in the energy matrix was discussed, emphasizing that its feasibility varies depending on different variables, strategic positioning, and the resources of each country. It may not be beneficial for all countries.
  • On a technical level, the importance was stressed of not focusing on the colors of hydrogen (green, white, or blue) but on the emissions reductions achieved (“carbon intensity”).
  • It was emphasized that the key lies not in stopping fuel production but in integrating other energy sources into the matrix.
  • It was acknowledged that each country has its own path in Energy Transition or Decarbonization.
  • Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) are crucial; Diversity represents a number, but the real value lies in Inclusion.


  • Statistics highlighting the importance of D&I were shared at the event;
    • 67% of job seekers globally consider diversity important.
    • There is a 1.7 times greater likelihood of being leaders in innovation.
    • Better decisions are made in 87% of cases.
    • There is a 33% greater likelihood of financial returns.
    • There is a 35% greater likelihood of return on equity.


  • Bonus Track: An additional interesting fact about the theory of relativity was provided, revealing that it was also developed by Einstein´s wife, who was not able to formally participate but agreed to receive the monetary prize if Albert won.
